Sarasota Real Estate & Homes

Sarasota was one of Money Magazine's 15 most livable communities. Why? Well it could be the sandy beaches, sophisticated arts, world-class shopping, five star resorts, distinguished country clubs, legendary fine dining or community events. Or maybe just the area's natural beauty and year-round good weather! Located on Southwest Florida's Suncoast, the Sarasota area is a paradise onto it's own.

Visitors may take advange many area events, such as theater, ballet, opera and international film festivals usually only found in larger urban areas. In fact, Southern Living Magazine recently named Sarasota County "the nation's per capita arts capital."

Sarasota is on the west coast of Florida, in the central part of the state. To its west is the Gulf Of Mexico, and portions of the city are sperated by Sarasota Bay. The city is composted of a mainland, and barrier islands (or keys). As of 2004, the total population was recorded at 54,349.

There is a bit of a difference between the city itself and what is actually though of as Sarasota. Most people living in what's called Sarasota live in unincorporated parts of Sarasota County. Some are even in parts of Manatee County, because Sarasota was considered to reach Bowlees Creek before Sarasota County was created in 1921 out of a portion of Manatee County. The southern border of the closest northern city, Bradenton, is 12 miles away, so an arbitrary line seperates portions of what once was identified as Sarasota before Sarasota County was created.
